Your Journey Through Pregnancy

The age of your pregnancy and your baby is defined as the number of weeks from your last period. The first trimester of pregnancy is generally defined as the period between 0 and 13 weeks.

The first trimester is the crucial period when all the organs, muscles and bones of your baby are formed. The exact dates will vary depending on your menstrual cycle and when you conceived, so please don’t worry about trying to tie down the details too precisely.

By eight to nine weeks of pregnancy, the embryo becomes a fetus, which means “the young one”, since organ formation is complete. The second trimester is taken up with consolidating all the basic structures that have been developed. During this period, the fetus grows rapidly and starts to make facial expressions, swallow, hear sounds and can be felt kicking in the mother’s womb.
