Parent Education
Upper Hutt Parents Centre regularly run a variety of parenting courses and workshops, all designed to suit the changing needs of your growing family.
Babies are welcome to attend all classes.
Courses are held at Rimutaka Kindergarten Association rooms, 10 Criterion Lane, Upper Hutt (above Lagans Pharmacy).

Upcoming Courses for 2012
Bubbly Bub (All ages)
Growing young minds through water play. Judy, an aquatic educator with over 30 years experience, will show you how to increase your childs' learning and developmental opportunities during bath, shower and pool times.
Session one is held at Rimutaka Kindergarten Association and includes a presentation, notes summarising key messages and a FREE Tommee Tippee bath toy. Session Two is held at Togzone and is a lesson in the pool for you and your baby. This is an ideal course for dads to attend.
Cost is $20 for members, $40 for non-members. Togzone also charges $4 per swimming adult but spectators and babies are free.
Course dates are:
- Saturday 28 January, 10am and Saturday 11 February, lesson time will be confirmed at the first session
Infant and Toddler CPR (All ages)
Learn valuable skills that could save a life. Course covers infant and child resuscitation and choking management with practice on a baby mannequin.
Cost is $15 for members, $25 for non-members and $10 for partners.

Brainwave Trust Presentation (All ages)
A fascinating seminar by the Brainwave Trust where you can gain new insights into how your little one's brain works and is developing. It focuses on the importance of the first three years of life and covers how the brain develops, how brain connections are formed, critical periods for learning skills and how experiences shape the brain. Highly recommended for all.
Cost is $10 for members, $20 for non-members and $5 for partners.

Speech and Language Development (0 to 18 months)
A Speech & Language therapist will cover how speech and language develops, what you can do to encourge it and when to be concerned.

Toddler Speech (18 to 36 months)
Taken by a Speech & Language therapist you'll learn how language typically develops, ways to promote and develop emerging language skills and how to support the development of speech sounds.
Cost is $10 for members, $20 for non-members and $5 for partners.

First Foods: An introduction to solids (4 to 12 months)
A qualified dietician will discuss when and how to introduce solids, how to establish good nutrition and dealing with allergies. Free Watties samples and food charts are provided and you can purchase the Alison Holst 'Baby Food and Beyond' recipe book for only $12.

Toddler Nutrition (12 to 36 months)
Need help getting your toddler to eat a variety of food? This course helps you tackle the sometimes difficult task of feeding your toddler. Taken by a qualified dietician it will cover snack ideas, family meals and dealing with allergies.
Cost is $10 for members, $20 for non-members and $5 for partners.

- Tuesday 27 March, 7.30pm
- Tuesday 25 September, 7.30pm
Toilet Training (18 months plus)
Get you and your toddler ready for this next step. The course covers signs of readiness, how to start, proper hygiene and what to do when it’s not working.
FREE Huggies samples and a toilet training guide are supplied.

Course dates are:
- Thursday 19 April, 7.30pm
- Tuesday 30 October, 7.30pm
Positive Discipline (18 months plus)
Reached that difficult stage? Sue from SKIP will provide you with practical advice on how to deal with difficult behaviour, tantrums and boundaries.
Cost is $10 for members, $20 for non-members and $5 for partners.

- Thursday 29 November, 7.30pm
