Parent Education

Parent education programmes aim to assist parents with the various ages and stages of their children, giving them the knowledge and skill sets to be effective.

Postnatal courses and informal support groups give parents the chance to meet other parents, establish friendships, and help adjust to their new life as parents.

All programmes are facilitated by experts in their own fields.

Tauranga Parents Centre provide the following courses to parents:

 Baby and You

This programme is a follow on from Antenatal classes, it explores the first 3 months of your baby's life and provides practical information about stimulation for babies, age appropriate toys and the key milestones of your baby's growth.

Many parents particularly new mums, find the information and support in the 'Baby and You' programme extremely helpful in managing the challenges, and making the most of the rewards that a new baby brings into their life.

'Baby and You' programmes also provide an opportunity to form a new support network with other parents sharing similiar experiences which can turn into life long friendships.

The programme runs over: Five 2 hour sessions over 3 weeks - see the calender below for start and finish dates.

Please contact us to book your place or for further information.

Moving and Munching

This programmes follows on from 'Baby and You', it explores from 4 - 12 months of your baby's life.

This is an exciting time 'your baby's emerging exploration of the environment and discovery of first foods' and as a new parent this can be a difficult time not knowing how to go about introducing solid foods and what issues you need to be aware of now that your baby is (or is getting closer to) being on the move.

The two components of the programme are:

Moving:

  • identifying areas of your home environment that might need safety proofing
  • encouraging the development of your baby's fine and gross motor skills by identifying age appropriate play and toys
  • identifying areas of language, intellectual and social development that helps to stimulate your baby's learning

Munching:

  • when and how to introduce solids into your baby's diet
  • how to continue to include milk in your baby's diet
  • exploring the need for changes in textures, tastes and the quantity of solids over time
  • ways to encourage your baby to develop healthy attitudes to food

This programme runs over: Two 2 hour sessions over 2 weeks - see calender below for start and finish dates.

Please contact us to book your place or for further information.
