Parent Education

Parents Centres throughout New Zealand run courses for over 9,000 parents of babies, toddlers, preschoolers and primary age children. Positive parenting courses, starting school evenings, informal coffee groups, playgroups and social events provide further support and friendship to parents and their children.

Postnatal courses and informal support groups give parents the chance to meet other parents, establish friendships, and help adjust to their new life as parents.

Napier Parents Centre provide the following courses to parents:

Magic Moments

Focuses on using non-physical ways of discipline, and encourages parents and caregivers to build strong and caring relationships with their children, while giving clear boundaries.

Principles of effective discipline
Ages and stages
Communication tips

Communication for Co-operation

Creating routines and structure
The importance of expressing feelings

This programme has been created to encourage parents/caregivers and key support people to look at how they parent, where they learnt their parenting skills and are they the most productive skills to use when raising children.
