Diploma in Childbirth Education

The Diploma in Childbirth Education is a course jointly presented by Aoraki Polytechnic (Timaru) and Parents Centres New Zealand. It is a tertiary level course to train childbirth educators and it is normally completed within two years.

The Diploma has gained “total course approval” from the New Zealand Polytechnic Programmes Committee under authority from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. The qualification is also recognised by the District Health Boards in their Service Requirement Definitions for Pregnancy and Parenting Education.
 
The cost of the course is in line with other tertiary level programmes and is spread as modular payments over two academic years.

There are two intakes a year into the course. Applications for the intake beginning at the start of the academic year usually close early in November. Applications for the intake beginning in the second half of the year usually close at the end of June.

Initially Childbirth Educators complete the Diploma in Childbirth Education through Aoraki Polytechnic.  This training includes placements and supervised facilitation of Childbirth Education Classes.  Parents Centres offer a number of student placements each year.

Upon completion of the Diploma in Childbirth Education the CBE can apply for any advertised positions with Parents Centre NZ Inc.
