Baby and You Course
A 5 week postnatal course run over 5 morning sessions coveringkey tips to develop and care for your baby and yourself during the first 4 months

Moving and Munching Course
A fun and informative 2 session, morning course for parents with babies aged 4-8 months, covering introducing solids plus early development and safety - now they are mobile

Tinies to Tots Course
Two fun and informative evening sessions for parents with olders babies aged 9-18 months, covering tips on nutrition, sleeping and development

Conscious Parenting Courses
Magic Moments
A 3 week evening course which will help you to focus on using non-physical methods of discipline and encourage parents and caregivers to build strong relationships with their children whilst setting clear boundaries

Parenting with Purpose
A 6 week evening course designed to help you think more actively about the way you parent

Special Interest Eveings
Toilet Training for Super Kids!
An interactive, practical and informative toilet training seminar

Baby and You
Coursesrun over five morningsessions and are held at Athol Syms Hall, 11 Griffin Ave, Epsom or Onehunga Community centre, 83 Church Street, Onehunga.
Each session runs from 9.45am to 11.00/11.30am.

Topics covered:
Feeding & Sleeping
A speaker from Plunket will teach you how to determine your baby's tired signs' and other useful feeding and sleeping tips for surviving and enjoying the first months.

Baby Massage
A qualified massage therapistwill work with you and your baby for hands on demonstration of relaxing baby massage techniques.

Postnatal Exercises
A specialist in postnatal exercise presents a motivational demonstration of essential postnatal exercises and gives you tips on improving your pelvic floor muscles

Postnatal Depression
A psychotherapist will facilitate a group discussion on the challenges of mother-hood, and will develop strategies with you for an enjoyable and satisfying mothering experience

CPR and First Aid
Learn how to execute CPR and choking procedures for babies. General first aid, issues such as poisons, burns and accidents will also be discussed.

Child Development
An early childhood consultant will cover major developmental stages for your baby and ideas to stimulate their mind. In this fun session you will learn about physical development, milestones, baby furniture and learning through play.

A qualified Dental Therapist will cover tooth development, caring for first teeth and preventing tooth decay.

Sleeping Routines for Older Babies
Sleep requirements of older babies, routines and transition from two to one daytime sleeps

 

Child Development
How play can stimulate learning and development.
Environment and equipment safety.
Age appropriate toys, games and activities.

Nutrition
Moving on from baby food.
Expected behavioral habits towards eating and maintaining good eating habits.

Understand  and have an overview of the course content.
U
nderstand the 6 Principles of Effective Discipline and how they apply in your own life.
I
dentify and understand the developmental stages and milestones of pre-schoolers.
Identify a wide range of positive and effective communication techniques.

Session Two

Identify communication techniques to engage children's cooperation.
Understand the importance of routine and structure and have practical strategies for use in your own life.
Understand why it is important to allow children to express their feelings.
Understand how and why pre-school children express their feelings.
Identify a range of practical techniques for helping children express and deal with their feelings.

Session Three
Understand the difference between discipline and punishment.
Identify some negative outcomes of physical discipline of children.
Identify some negative behaviour triggers in children.
Identify a wide range of non-physical discipline techniques and ways in which they can be used within the family setting.

Parenting with Purpose
Courses run over three eveningsessions and are held at Onehunga Community Centre, 83 Church Street, Onehunga
Each session runs from 7pm to 9pm.

Understand the meaning of 'conscious parenting'.
Identify conscious parenting skills that may be applied to individuals.
Understand and identify how our personal qualities help determine our effectiveness as parents.

SessionTwo
Understand the connection between parents meeting their own needs and conscious parenting.
Understand how families are affected when parents do not make their own needs a priority.
Identify features of healthy relationships and have an understanding of how these can be applied to your own life.

Session Three
Identify your children's main needs.
Understand some causes of stress in adults and children and identify some useful strategies for reducing it.
Identify strategies parents can use to engage their children's cooperation.

Session Four
Understand the difference between discipline and punishment.
Identify and understand the features of the three main parenting styles and temperaments of children.
Identify common causes of challenging behaviour in children.

Session Five
Identify triggers of challenging behaviour in children.
Understand how anger and conflict in the family can negatively impact children's behaviour and identify some effective anger management strategies.
Gain an understanding of a wide range of non-physical discipline techniques and identify ways they can be used within the family setting.

Session Six
Identify personal qualities you would like your children to have as adults.
Identify a wide range of strategies for strengthening the family.
Create a vision and action plan for the future.

Come along to an interactive, practical and informative toilet training seminar with lots of tips and strategies to make it easier. Covering everything from when and how to start, equipment needed, using reward charts and different methods that you can adapt to your child/family.
