Lobbying & Advocacy Strategy
Strategy
- Parents Centres will lobby with, and on behalf of, Centres. Parents Centres will develop, in conjunction with Centres, an agenda and manifesto.
- Parents Centres will be an active member of the Parenting Council.
- Parents Centres will consult with and seek collaborative input from the organisation.
- Parents Centres will advocate on behalf of New Zealand parenting.
- Parents Centres will advocate on the provision of universal Childbirth Education.
- Parents Centres will advocate that the Department of Corrections encourage and enable inmates to exclusively breastfeed their infants from birth to two years of age.
- Parents Centres will advocate that the Department of Corrections ensures the attachment and bonding process of mother and baby is enabled and encouraged.
- Parents Centres will advocate the provision of a parenting agreement by the Department of Corrections to enable the delivery of parent education to foster conscious parenting.
- Parents Centres will advocate that the Department of Corrections ensure that visits by children of inmates are considered a protected right and free of any consequence resulting from prison disciplinary procedures taken against the parent.
- Parents Centres will advocate for the government to recognise the detrimental impact on children of exposure to all forms of violence and to show leadership in changing the culture of violence across New Zealand society.
- Parents Centres will encourage parliamentarians to legislate for the protection of women who breastfeed in public spaces.
- Parents Centres will advocate for the immediate repeal of Section 59 of the Crimes Act 1961 whilst advocating for comprehensive support for parents by the delivery of positive parenting education programmes.
Goals
- To deliver a living, focused and active political agenda to the organisation.
- To develop and implement a practical and effective advocacy plan.
- To develop effective lobbying and advocacy networks that will enhance and further our stated agend.
- To ensure that all communication is factual, referenced, well-proofed and approved by the appropriate person.
- To ensure all communication reflects our vision, mission, constitutional objects and position statement and is focussed on our stated agenda as documented in the manifesto.
- To ensure all Centres understand their role and actively participate in the agenda of the organisation.
- To ensure that all Centres are kept informed of current parenting issues and government policies and the national position of Parents Centres in relation to these issues and policies.
- To encourage all Centres to identify any parenting issues of local or national concern and inform national office of these concerns.
